Dr. Cockings moved to Lubbock when he was 15 years old from Canada after his father joined the Texas Tech Health Sciences Center. He graduated from Coronado High School in 1981. He attended Texas A&M University as an undergraduate, graduating with a degree in Microbiology. He attended Baylor Medical College in Houston, TX and graduated in 1989. He performed a transitional internship at Baylor College of Medicine. He returned to Lubbock and completed his ophthalmology residency in 1994 at the Texas Tech Health Sciences Center. He subsequently did a 1 year fellowship in pediatric ophthalmology in Montreal. He returned once more to Lubbock in 1995 to set up his current practice. He is a clinical assistant professor in the Department of Ophthalmology at the Texas Tech Health Sciences Center in Lubbock.
He is married to Andrea (Texas Tech '01) and they have 2 children.
